Hi! I’m Cortney- Welcome!

My husband Rich and I toil away on about 7.5 acres of super sandy soil in USDA zone 4b- Northern Wisconsin- land of Leinenkugel beer and world famous Gouda. We moved here 2014 after stints in Minnesota, Texas, and South Dakota and have been working and plotting to re-imagine the 3.5 acres of weed-filled sod we inherited into something much more interesting.
We’ve currently got a veg garden, a potager, a number of different flower gardens, two small orchards, a wildlife pond, a prairie, and a hillside that we are coaxing back into woodland. The rest of our land is about 4 acres of elm, oak, and maple forest. (To get the lay of the land, please check out the “Garden Map” tab on the Home Page. I got out all my fancy pens and markers to make that!)
I suppose I (and therefore, we?) garden with Right Plant, Right Place as our guidepost. That means much of what we grow is confined to whatever likes really, really good drainage and full, blazing sun in the summer and sub-zero temperatures in the winter. No time for pretenders or divas here!

My hope is that this site will be a good resource for both new and experienced gardeners and a place for us all to share our garden projects, ideas, favorites, and problems.
Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you find what you are looking for! If not, just ask in the comments!
It is almost impossible to remember just green grass when you moved in there in 2014. You have transformed your yard into a beautiful, serene ,peaceful oasis.
What a joy it is to sit on your patio and enjoy your magic and I might add your brandy old fashions are magic too!
Seems like yesterday we were sitting in the yard taking tape off packing boxes
And you were busy building raised beds. How can that be…magic…pure magic!
I am filled with amazement and pride.
